The Music Appreciation Group aims to share the enjoyment of listening to music, whilst enhancing our knowledge and understanding of it. Although some members have technical knowledge, and some play an instrument or sing, we have been happy for anyone who appreciates music to join us. Our approach is eclectic. Classical music perhaps provides the core, but we also embrace jazz, folk, musical theatre, aspects of “world music” and on occasions even rock and pop music.

A session may focus on an individual composer or performer, or a specific work, instrument or format. The aim is to provide a balanced mix of musical styles and periods. Although we have occasionally had outside speakers, usually meetings consist of presentations by our members. Sometimes we have “themed meetings” to which everyone contributes. Thus we all benefit from the different interests and specialist knowledge within the group, and make new musical discoveries.
