Our Arts Appreciation Group covers a diversity of art forms including painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, textiles and digital technology. We try to reflect the interests of our members and further our knowledge by using outside speakers but also calling on our members to do research and give presentations.
In June we took a day trip to Edinburgh to visit the The Scottish National Gallery and The Portrait Gallery. This was a favourite portrait of Nicola Benedetti, the Scottish violinist. We took advantage of the Lumo train service from Morpeth.

In June we had a bus trip to Galashiels to see "The Great Tapestry of Scotland", an exhibition which both astonished us with the amazing design and technique and refreshed our knowledge of Scottish history.
Our members' choices covered a range of fascinating works from old masters like Caravaggio, to more modern works by Chagall and Nigerian artist Nengi Omuku.
In August we were delighted to have the opportunity to see the iconic Turner painting, "The Fighting Temeraire" on loan to the Laing Gallery and learn more about Turner.

Our programme has taken us from Artemisia Gentileschi and "The Northern Renaissance" to Edward Burne-Jones and "The Japanese Influence on Western Art", Katsushcka. There is something for all tastes and so much to learn. We look forward to seeing you.
