Mid-Northumberland

About Us

The Mid-Northumberland branch of the u3a was started in 2007 and our current membership is over 300.

We are a member of the Northumbria Region of u3a, an association of the individual u3a groups in Northumberland, Durham and Northern Yorkshire which has a website northumbria.u3asite.uk and a newsletter (The Messenger) which can be accessed via the site map on that site.

For more information about the history and ethos of the u3a go to the website website u3a or click on the u3a tab above, which will allow you to access the national site.

In Mid-Northumberland we have a wide range of activity groups which are organised by the members themselves. These take place mainly in Longhirst Village Hall but sometimes in each others’ homes or other local venues. Groups are self-supporting and members share their skills and life experiences to learn together for pleasure, not for qualifications or exam results. You can find a comprehensive list and details of all our groups by going to the Groups page. Our groups are free to join for paid-up Mid-Northumberland u3a members but any meetings which are held in Longhirst Village Hall may attract a small charge to include refreshments and room hire.

We also hold a General Meeting, for the whole membership, in Longhirst Village Hall on the second Wednesday of each month, for which there is a small charge of £2. We meet at 2:00 pm and there is generally an invited speaker, some music or entertainment followed by refreshments, during which there is time to socialise. You are more than welcome to come along to one of these monthly meetings to meet the members, listen to the speaker and find out more about us. Please check the Events page for a list of General Meetings.

On the first Thursday of each month at 10.30 am at Longhirst Village Hall our Social Group hold a coffee morning, for which there is no charge. Potential new members are very welcome to come along and meet the members of our Social Group. They can get to know each other, or catch up with friends and generally have a good chat over tea/coffee and biscuits. This is a useful opportunity for new or prospective members to meet existing members and find out about our social events or the groups they would like to join.

We deliver a Newsletter every month by email to keep you up to date with our group activities and events but we will also regularly update and post details on the website. (See the Events page).

Joining is very straightforward and excellent value, currently £12 per year for full membership and £8.00 for associate membership and couldn't be easier. For details of how to join please see our Membership page.
